2021 Week 3 Pete The Cat!

We really are on a roll!
The kids have settled in nicely.
We're building community while building our brains!

Here are some highlights from our week
(we had a sub Tuesday afternoon... I'm doctoring for herniated disk... don't worry it's not slowing me down too much!)
On Monday we learned about Letter Ee and experienced this excellent experiment of Elephant Toothpaste!
We thought like scientists to make predictions. For this experiment I needed to mix the chemicals as the hydrogen peroxide is not kid friendly.  The resulting bubbles were a harmless byproduct of the chemical reaction when we added yeast to the H2O2.  Plus it's an exothermic reaction which means it created heat.. so we made very warm bubbles!

On Tuesday the kids had a fizzy experiment where they actually got to mix vinegar and baking soda.  We even recorded our findings like scientists!

Isn't that pretty?   And so simple!

We are matching words to print with Pete The Cat!

We also created these cutie-patootie Petes!
We were focusing on color words.

We are also READING these sentences!

We POINT to each word as we read it.

And to tie in with last week's

Animal Body Parts Science topic we labeled Pete!

We will have plenty of these labeling activities throughout the year!

Our ABC Book continues with Ee for eggs,
Ff for fish, and Gg for GREAT BIG GLITTER Gg!

We wrapped up Brown Bear activities with our very first journal page! These are put into a bound book that we call LUCKY DUCK books!

The kids take turns bringing them home and returning them the next day so some else can enjoy them!

These BIG COLORFUL BEARS are in the hallway brightening up our school!

This week we played
"I have...who has?" game with Pete!
This is also one we play often!

2021 Week 2 Corduroy and Brown Bear Themes!

 We did it!

We had our first full week of Kindergarten!

Here are some of our highlights:

Every day that we have a new letter

we create a page for our alphabet book.

We will send these home toward the end of October!  So much messy and creative fun!

On Monday we created these adorable alligator purses to hold pictures of things that begin with Aa!
Plus we read and sang the song that goes with it!

We created these cutie-patootie Corduroy bears on Wednesday!

Once again photos were optional so if you don't see your kiddo they didn't come up for a photo.

We created a Thank You gift for you!
I want you to know how grateful I am for all your help with the beginning of the school year!
The donations are much appreciated, too.
You parents are AMAZING!

We have our first two 100 CLUB kids!
They counted to 100 without any assistance or errors!
Way to go!
Most years all the kids reach this goal by the end of March.  Keep practicing if your kiddo is not there yet!

We will have learning centers
every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
If you or any family member would like to volunteer in our classroom, this is a time that we could use more hands!
You could sign up for 1 or 2 days or commit for longer, just let me know and I will send you details!

Tuesday's centers included:
Following a recipe to create an edible BUS!!!

Shape sorting:

ABC Bear fine motor activity:
Number Boxes:
Play Dough Fun!

MMMM!  Those buses were yummy!

and a fine motor activity of placing buttons on letters of the alphabet:

The kiddos rotate to all 5 stations!
It takes us about an hour.
What fun!

Every morning the k kids sign
on the Morning Message Chart:
This was a particularly tasty looking chart for Dd day!

This week (and next Monday) we practiced reading with the help of Brown Bear!

At morning meeting we have been playing this fun game as practice clapping our syllables.
It's called Little Bear, Little Bear,
We Can't Find You Anywhere!

On Friday I introduced INITIALS to the kids.  They will use their initials when signing in on the chart every day was well as when a paper or project does not have a special spot for our NAME.
