(I love winter colors!)
(I love winter colors!)
and cookies!
This week we took out new word building activities.
This one is the kiddos favorite!
Everytime I walked by there was another new word written in the sand!
I am a lucky teacher!
We began our Chinese New Year unit.
It is the year of the dog!
Gung Hay Fat Choy!
We also began a Ground Hog unit this week!
We finished our 3D shape study with an exciting science experiment! We had little tiny spheres that we rehydrated. As they absorbed water to increase their size by 100%
they turned into big squishy spheres!
Oh so pretty and AMAZING!
Mrs. Sauers helped the kiddos create these lucky dragons!
Tuesday afternoon we made Chinese Noodles and ate them with chopsticks at one of our stations at centers!
Another station was counting by 10s with lucky red envelopes....
We printed the animals of the Chinese New Year...
and we compared our culture with the Asian culture...
Here's more chopstick pics...
On Wednesday's new morning challenges included:
Sentence building with Chinese New Year Animals...
Counting by 5s with lucky leises...
Panda number puzzles...
counting by 2s,5s, and 10s
This k kid brought aaaapples for short a snack!
Adorable!
Here's some of our lucky dragons in action!
We also designed our own paper fans!
The housekeeping area is set up with tea and chopsticks...what fun!
On Wednesday afternoon we had a Kindergarten Switch-a-roo! Our class went to Mrs. Pilger's room to learn how to paint Chinese characters. Mrs. Pilger's kids came in our room to make and eat more of those delicious Chinese Noodles!
Here's me using the wok, round 2!
These paintings turned our beautiful!
Each k kid got their own lucky leise (pronounced LEE-See)
as we learned about a tradition of Asian American families giving their children special coins in these fancy red envelopes!
Whew! What a fun, fast study of another culture!
(a state standard for kindergarten by they way)
We read many interesting facts about groundhogs and created our own groundhog puppets!
We predicted whether or not the groundhog would see its shadow...the yes votes won!
Thursday's centers included:
Shadow Science...
Groundhog ending sounds...
Read the room with
groundhogs ten frames counting on from 10
Groundhog ch-th-sh practice...
(this was a hard one!)
Here's our BIG Lucky Dragon we created together!
We created these cutie groundhogs and wrote about what we hope the prediction will be!
It was pretty even...half of the kids hoping for Spring, the other half still enjoying Winter!
