I know, I know...
Most folks would spend their 29th wedding anniversary somewhere tropical but HERE I AM!
In my favorite place....Lake Superior!
I have been IN that big beautiful lake every single month of the year! We have participated in a 10k ACROSS her on a frosty -20* night, drove on her when the ice highway opens (only occasionally), kayaked out to her sea caves (on the Wisconsin side), and spent time in her as often as possible restoring my soul! Plus she gives me agates and beach glass! And sometimes a full body ice cream headache as the cold settles into my body...haha!
We actually went up for the Beargrease sled dog race which begins in Duluth and travels over 300 miles to the Canadian Border at Grand Portage. We usually hit up a few check points to see the dogs up close and personal as they travel to their mandatory stops along the trail. I'd recommend seeing this in person at least once (or 10 times!)
Back in Lewiston, we began the celebrating the Lunar New Year (aka the Chinese New Year)
It is the Year of the Rabbit!
We have so many fun artifacts to explore!
Our Dramatic Play area is all set up for an Asian feast!
Here is our Discovery Table...
We spent a few days learning about
PANDAS!
This is our lucky dragon!
We created these cutie patootie pandas on Monday.
We spend Tuesday through Thursday writing about them. First a rough draft, then a copy ready for the hallway! Whew~that was hard work, but we can do hard things!
Our new stations in action....
We finally did a guided drawing together.
I tell you, lacking dedicated para time has really cut into our extracurricular fun and learning! When I am queen of the world, every classroom will have a full time para!
Anyway, I am doing my best to squeeze in time for these enriching experiences!
I just LOVE these!
We also introduced SELF CONTROL BUBBLES for our Cardinal C.A.R.E.S. When a bubble comes near you, you can't pop it even if you really really want to!
It was a fun exercise in self-control!
Of course, we popped away at the end because...BUBBLES!
This was the first stop for our pandas. After we wrote about them they went into the hallway!
More choice time...
We will continue to revisit our Cardinal C.A.R.E.S as our social studies core curriculum is nearly completed. I will pop in each letter again as the year marches on .
Hold on to your hats!
We actually made CHINESE NOODLES in our classroom for Wednesday's centers!
We took home our placemats so your k kid could find out what year YOU were born in!
Station 2 was comparing 2 cultures:
USA and China
Station 3 was counting by 10s using Lucky Leieses (red envelopes given to children to celebrate...I hope your k kid got their home safe!)
Station 4 was writing words given only the beginning letter...
And station 5 was making Chinese Noodles and dumplings with playdough!
(if you are spring cleaning and come across these "noodle" makers, we'd be glad to take them off your hands!)
Action Shots of K Kids using chopsticks!
I didn't get everyone using their chopsticks, sorry!
They were just too quick! Those noodles were tasty!
On Thursday we learned a bit about groundhogs as we made these adorable little fellas:
