2018 Week 2 Aa Bb Cc Dd, Sorting & Classifying, Brown Bear!

Yay! We are beginning our "Eating Our Way Through The Alphabet " snacks!
This lovely lady started us out with Aa snack of animal crackers !

We are creating an ABC Book with a little craftivity on each page. These will come home toward the end of October.

We used Q-Tips for painting our Aa apples!

Monday afternoon we also read the story and sang the song called The Lady with the Alligator Purse!  We then created our own alligator purses with Aa things in it!

We had new table activities this week.  We rotate each bin to all the tables over the course of 3 days.
The yellow team sorted jewels and nuts and bolts...

The green team created structures and pictures with shapes...

And the red team worked together to solve puzzles...

Every day when we focus on the letter of the day,  the kiddos get a choice of how to review that letter after we finish our seat work.  One of these choices is search and paper punch ... what great fine motor fun!

Another choice is dot letters...

And a fun uppercase/ lowercase flip game... we are having fun while learning!

Here's the bonus work all laid out for the kiddos to choose from...

We did our first journal page on Tuesday.  We thought about where we might need a bandaid after singing the song,  "I am stuck on bandaids, cuz bandaids stuck on me! "  We will bind this book together and each kiddo will get a chance to take it home to share.  We'll do this with many of our journal responses and even some homework assignments.  These classmade books are called "Lucky Duck" books because you're the lucky duck if you get to take them home to share for the night!

We began centers!
Every Tuesday and Thursday we will have 5 stations to rotate through in the afternoon.   Typically we will have  Math,  Language Arts,  science or social studies,  art, and brain break stations.
This gives Ms.Amy and myself an opportunity to teach in small groups.
Plus it's so much fun!
Our first week is mostly getting used to the process.
We rotated through rocks
(Water displacement was a common observation! )

Building a bus to EAT! Yummy!

 reviewing letter Bb...

 Working on puzzles...

 And playdo!

Wednesday's new morning challenges included:
Unifix cubes ...

An actual morning challenge... the kids matched the correct number of frogs onto the pond mat...

And magnatiles and light table toys...

Soon,  all three tables will be working with their table friends to solve the challenges!

This lovely lady brought Bb bananas yesterday for our Bb snack!

On Wednesday this cutie brought Cc cookies for our Cc Snack!

Here's another lucky duck book.  It's a rollicking rhyme about buttons with a surprise ending!

Here's Tuesday's ABC book page for Bb big beautiful bee...

 And Wednesday's letter Cc cat...

and here's our letter Dd...a dinosaur!

This darling kiddo brought Dd dog snacks for our letter Dd snack!

Thursday choice time was very engaging.  Here's some of their choices:
Painting station...

 Engineering marble runs...

 Writing center...

 Word world letters...

 Tessalations (patterning) with pattern blocks...

 Treehouse ...

To quote a famous man "Play is the highest form of research. " Albert Einstein.
Great things happen when we provide excellent choices for our children to engage in.

Good reads for this week...
(My favorite time of the day,  reading to the children! )

We play an alphabet game daily.  The first goal was only to 5 points.  When the kids won,  they got to choose a reward.  This time they picked popcorn and a movie!  So I popped 6 bags of popcorn and put in Word World for our 20 minute rest time!  The next goal is 10 points!

Thursday's centers included :
Sorting M&Ms by color...

Brain break play dough...

Brown Bear  dice game...

Color word sorting...

Counting Bears letter practice...
