2018 Week 5 Letters Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp Fall Themes

So,  what you might not know about me is my hubby and I are backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail... all 300+ miles!
We've been ticking off sections for 4 years now and we just finished our 140th mile!
Here we are last weekend somewhere in the Sawtooth Mountains near Lutsen.
These pictures do not do the splendor of the trees justice!

 Yep,  we woke to snow!

It's usually 2 nights in the forest, one day on the trail,  and (my favorite! ) one day in the lake!

I love love love Lake Superior!

So I began Monday recharged and reenergized (and a bit sore...20 pound pack, 9 miles  and the equivalent of 47 flights of stairs! )

We began with new morning challenges:
More beginning sound apples...

Apple clip it cards
One-to- one counting...
 Apple numeric ordering...

Mr. Riebel came in to read to us for our social studies unit called
Leaders at Home and School!
He even wore a moose hat for letter Mm day!
Oh my!  We're got mustaches for Mm day!

This is Monday's leader reading the morning message to the class!
 We finally finished all the
'What doesn't belong? " items.
 Here's just a few...
 Thanks for sending them in!

We ended Monday with moose hats!
Thank you to my son, Leland, who gets these for us every year from his employer... Moose Jaw in Wisconsin Dells!   If you're ever go there,  he's the kitchen manager!  Say 'hi! '

Here's Tuesday's nifty Nn snack...
Neon cupcakes !
He was also our birthday boy!
As we're wrapped up the apple unit,  we had one last measuring activity... we measured ourselves!

We love exploring the science table!
 And the apple discovery table!
We had our first star word
I!

Tuesday's centers included these stations:
Apple vocabulary tens frames...

 Apple numeral match...

 Apple I Spy...

 Magnet match...

 Apple beginning sound...
(Sorry I did not get a close up of the activity)

We've been practicing printing numerals...

Here's another fun game we played.
I love how the kids choose these games at the choice time!

We've also been having fun with retelling Monday's story!
 Wednesday's Oo snack was
Ooooooreoooos!
(That's how we've been saying it to really hear those Oos!)
 We're also created these owls!
(Handprint wings will get added AFTER picture day! )

(obligatory fall photo squeezed in for your viewing enjoyment~ This is at the pumpkin cart in Wyattville!)
Thursday morning we had 3 new morning challenges:
Leaf clip it rhyme time...

 Owl ABC order...

 Owl Numeral/Object/Tally match...
On Thursday we painted our letter Pp page in our ABC book but we did NOT use orange...instead we did a little color magic to create orange with red and yellow!
We had lots of talk about primary colors from the kids!

This precious person brought popcorn for our Pp snack!
We created these cardinals to take to the Homecoming Parade on Friday (weather permitting!)
 Centers on Thursday included:
Pokey Pin ABC version
(the kids trace then POKE with a pushpin the dots on their card! This is a favorite and we come back to it several times throughout the year.)

Dice roll and match race...

Painting the alphabet...

OH YES WE DID!
POLKA DOT SOUP!
What fun, it is a tub of water with little transparent colored disks and measuring snd and pouring tools!

PomPom letter building...

GOOD READS...

We squeezed in a little extra science this week with comparing nocturnal and diurnal animals.
I had to ask our classroom Alexa about hedgehogs...
Hmmm, what do you think they are?
If you said nocturnal, you are correct!

We also did our first
 CAN HAVE ARE chart
 all about owls.
This one is only half finished as we always do a before (what we know)  and after (we read nonfiction books and record what we learned)
These little guys are a hit!
They are reading owls !
The family projects are looking awesome!
These are the midnight brownies I made for the kids for winning the ABC game  to 10 points.
(I leave one abc card out of the deck, we race through them, then the kids take turns guessing which I left out!)
They're called midnight brownies because that's when I get around to making them! Good thing I'm a night owl!
