2018 Week 6 Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt; Fire Safety, Patterns

Stay tuned for this exciting experiment!

Some of the k kids are really rocking penmanship!  This little one knocked my socks off!
Pretty soon most of the k kids will be printing this lovely!

Remember the owls we made last week?  We painted handprint wings!

absolutely adorable!
During choice we have some expert engineers!
Wow,  what a structure!
Here's some homecoming parade photos from last Friday!   What fun!

I'm excited by blue eggs again at my house!  Most of the summer my blue layers were broody or raising a clutch.
Just after discovering these lovely eggs in the hen house... were discovered THESE...
 Wonder where she was brooding?
Meanwhile back at school...
This quite nice kiddo brought Quaker granola bars for our letter Qq treat!
On Monday we began learning about our 2nd star word...like!
We've been practicing beginning letter sound... it's a tough but necessary skill!
Like we say in K, "We can do hard things! "
On Monday afternoon at painted these beautiful autumn leaves!

Here's a few of the abc book pages we've done lately...(I think I might have missed posting some last week)

Tuesday's centers included the following stations:

Mystery bag and letter match...

 Painting with Q tips...

 Our first read the room!
We move around to find the hidden cards.  This week's skill was to review community workers and to get a feel for the process of READ THE ROOM!

 Leaf beginning sound...

 Stamping objects to 10...

 Here's another morning message...
The fire safety station is up and running!
We switched out apples for fall items in our discovery table...

This is something new this year...
My daughter  Sorcha,  needed a new phone so we are using her old one simply as a camera. The kids build,  create,  read,  draw something they are proud of and the get to take a photo of their creation.  The kids are doing wonderful work taking care on the camera and staging their photos with a star name tag to help me remember who made what.  One day I'll dedicate a post just to their photos!

Here's a sneak peek at our science project for Wednesday... looks like fun!

 But first the morning challenges:
Fire safety vocab and one-to- one counting...

 Fire truck abc order...

 Fire truck numeric order...

Finally we got to Skittle Science on letter Ss day!

Each team had to build a circle of skittles,  draw a hypothesis of what they thought might happen when we carefully added water,  then we added the water and OBSERVED.  Wow! Just like magic!
Their final step was to draw the results!

We learned about the words dissolve and diffuse!

Ohhhh, this is a pretty one!

Here's the video again...I just came stop watching it!
This is our whole group one we did together after their individual experiments.

On Wednesday we also created these adorable little fire engines!

We switched out our 'like' word wall with some fire safety items.

On Thursday this terrific kid brought us tasty teddy grahams for our Tt snack!

Thursday's centers included:
My fire safety station where we practiced stay low and go
Stop drop and roll
Get out and stay out
911 "what's your emergency? "
And a fire plan for home

Then they drew their favorite fire safety tip...
This is stay low and go!
