Here's two crazy hikers...
Saturday was a day trip (night trip actually) to Mirror Lake State Park near Wisconsin Dells for our first candlelight event of the season, no snowshoes or skis required this time!
Sunday we took the big white pup out for a 5 mile hike on the Whitewater Reserve between Elba and Weaver, one of our favorite local places!
Here's a few photos from Friday:
We designed these sweet little mittens for a future project (page down to Thursday to see! )
We finally got to go sledding!
Yes, I screamed all the way down the hill! The kids thought it was funny to see their teacher on a little red sled!
It was fun, though!
Monday's new morning challenges were:
Icy ABC order...
Snowman beginning sounds. .
Snowman addition...
We wrote star words and power words on paper snowballs.... you can guess what we did after reading them!
Here's a few other sections of our room...
Monday afternoon we created last name snowmen for the hallway!
Tuesday's centers included:
Snowman ending sounds...
Snowman addition (counting on was the skill)
Snowflake bdgpq sort...
Sledding color words...
Counting by 2s in a rainbow blizzard!
(We kept this one up a few days because it was so lovely! )
I love love love this shot!
On Wednesday we created these snowy mittens for an upcoming writing project...
We also wrote about what we think snowmen do at night. Then we illustrated and painted!
The family projects are looking great!
We wrapped up an adjective activity by describing a snowman!
The building wintery structures continues...
On Thursday we made a paper version of our real mittens or gloves and then graphed our data.
One of our favorite but difficult tasks was to write with our mittens on our hands!
What self control it took!
What focus!
Then we switched hands to make it harder still! Yikes!
And for the grand finale... we wrote without looking at the paper! There might have been a little marker on the carpet here and there!
We reinforced the concept that we can do hard things! And that we can really have a good time while learning!
We also mixed up some instasnow!
We learned the words polymer and reaction and expansion!
Thursday's centers included:
Mitten measuring with our new student teacher, Ms.Harden, who visited for an hour to get to know us before she begins on Monday.
More about her next week!
Beginning and ending sounds...
Ordinal numbers with the characters
from the folktale The Mitten by Jan Brett...
Science: How animals move?
A pair of friends mitten match...
Good reads...
Here's a little comparing and contrasting of the characters in two different versions of The Mitten.
