2019 September Week 1: Welcome to School, Kissing Hand, Corduroy!

And we are OFF!
What a great start to our KINDERGARTEN career!
On the first day we just had to take pictures...

We began our morning with table activities:
Each day for 3 days the activities switch to a new table so the kids get to explore all of the manipulatives.
The green team began with unifix cubes...

The yellow team began with pattern blocks...

and the red team had foam shapes...

We offered a bonus choice time as we organized all the things that the kiddos brought in.

Our group time on the first day was spent counting boys and girls...this is the only time that boys have to have blue and girls have to have pink.  We used this activity to discuss how the colors belong to EVERYONE!
There are no girl or boy colors!

I just love these 1st day drawings!
I made a copy for you but I am keeping the original for a memory book to give you at the end of the year!

We even painted on the first day!
Hope you enjoyed the kissing hand we made for you!

We also made these cutie-patootie raccoons!

We do have rest time daily.
Monday through Thursday we have quiet time on our towels for about 15 minutes.  We look at books, snuggle our rest buddies, and just have a little down time.  No need to nap (unless they need it, then they will fall asleep...we let them sleep!)
During this time I often call the kids over for assessments.

On Fridays we share rest time with Mrs. Pilger's class as we watch a rest video together!  It is usually a Weston Woods video (books set to video format) or LeapFrog series video.  What fun!

On Wednesday we began CENTERS!
This is a time that we move to 4 different learning stations for about 10 minutes each.
For our first centers it was 4 super fun stations to get the feel of moving around the room.
We had the painting station...

The magnetic learning toys station...

The playdo station...

and the block station...

The kiddos also designed these super sweet picture frames for you!
It's my little way of saying THANK YOU for all the great donations, helping with homework, and just for being you, the parent(s) of a pretty great K kid!

The kids discovered they could READ this chart!
We played an environmental print matching game to continue with those reading skills that
WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WE HAD!

It's hard to see, but their is a BUBBLE on this guy's head!
We used BUBBLES to practice our SELF CONTROL!
I blew bubbles around the kids, they could not reach out to pop them!
My goodness! They did a great job!
We are working on transferring those self control skills to standing in line, walking down the hallway, and practicing our patience!

Thank you for sending in the homework this week!
These kissing hands are GREAT!
They are displayed so your kiddo can see them and remember "My family loves me!"
Just like in the book The Kissing Hand!

Every day we have a morning message with an interactive piece for the kindergarteners.
The kids are really catching on quickly!

OK these kids are my favorite!
Look at all the agate diggers!
(I have a tub of rocks from the North Shore with some real nice agates mixed in!)
They sorted and admired the rocks during choice time!

The k kids also love to sort buttons!

More choice time!

We read Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy this week.
Then we created our own little Corduroy bears!
So cute!

 Good Reads this week!

Here's another fun game we played this week!
"Little Bear, Little Bear, I can't find you anywhere!"
Then we reviewed our color words as we guessed where he is hiding!

We also played a rhyming matching game...

On Friday we began new table activities first thing in the morning:
PomPom Letters...

 Sorting Buttons and Bears...

Puzzles!
