2017 Week 8 Letters Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz; Spiders, Bats, Skeletons!

.
My daughter, Sorcha, and I drove down to Indianapolis during the long weekend to see my oldest daughter and my grandbabies!  Just to hold the youngest, Pia, was worth the loooooong drive!
Here's some of our family fun...
 Pia peeking!
This is all four of my Indiana loves!
Pia, Calla, Cru, and Wren
We spend one afternoon at the Indianapolis Children's Museum.  The oldest 2 and I were able to do virtual reality...we tight roped walked 100 feet in the air while standing on the floor!  VR is amazing!!!!!

Here's Auntie Sorch with Calla and Cru.

Monday came very quickly!
We began our week with Letter Ww.
We sprayed Witch Melting Water on the Wicked Witch!
What fun!

This Wonderful kid brought wafer cookies for our Ww treat!
Rod, our custodian, bought mini pumpkins for all of Kindergarten!
We decorated ours on Monday.
They are adorable!

THE is our newest star word.
We made THE watches to review!
Check out our Wacky Watermelon Morning Message...
We began a mini unit on bats.
We began with a label the bat research project.

Our project pics are posted further down on this post...
New learning for me: vampire bats take care of their elderly relatives, starving peers, and other weaker vampire bats.  Not sure how, but they are very nurturing.  Crazy!

Tuesday brought new morning challenges:
Bat ABC order...

Halloween sentences...

Bat numeral, tally, and number match...

This eXtremely generous kid brought Xx cookies for our Xx snack!

We've several new learning stations open.
The bones area is a hit!

The discovery table is full of spooky Halloween toys!

We've a Spider and Bat table ready to go...

This scientist created a flying bat!

 Tuesday's centers included:
Bat Hats and Bat rhyming packet!

Bat missing letter (abc order)

Bat ways to make 5...

 and a playdo brain break!

Here's a couple of recent entries into our abc book....

I brought Yogurt bites to share for Yy day....Yummy!

On Wednesday we created these adorable mummies!
We've been talking a lot about fiction/nonfiction.
This time of year lends itself to delving into this topic.
Mummies are real...nonfiction.
Walking around scary mummies are imaginary...fiction.
Some kids find this a tough concept. Funny!

Wednesday was spider day.
We learned so many interesting things about spiders.
Did you know spiders were alive when dinosaurs walked the earth? Me either! New learning for me!
We learned a fancy word: cephlathorax...the word for a spider's head/thorax.  Cool!

We had to have some fun with spiders as well!
We created these adorable little arachnids so we could sing
"There's a spider on the floor, on the floor!"

We painted these vibrant spider webs!

On Thursday this zany guy brought zebra treats for Zz day!

Did you hear?  We changed seats!  Yay!

We are making a bat research page for the hallway.  This is how we painted the moons we need for our bats to fly in front of....we used gray painty bubbles to make the pretty craters!

Thursday's centers included:
Spider roll/record/show/stamp

Spider Numeral Practice...

Spiders Beginning Sounds
(we got to pick a spider ring to keep!)

We used fidget spinners to graph shapes!

Friday brought new morning challenges:
Halloween word building with bone letters!

 Ghostly numeric order...

ghostly abc order...

We continued our skeleton unit today by using our new knowledge to put together a skeleton.
There might have been a few ribs and hips switched around, but for the most part they did great!

We celebrated the end of our 2d shape unit with a shape party!  Thanks to all who sent in crackers at the beginning of the year.  Today was the day we finally got to snack on them!

Here's the beginning of a project for next week.
The elementary decorates the high school for the
Taste of Cardinal Country that the 4th graders perform in along with the older kids at the high school.
The theme is IMAGINE: love peace kindness
Stay tuned for our project.
Better still, go to the  Taste of Cardinal Country to see all the elementary artwork (high school too) and listen to the great concert and see a sneak peek of the Fall play!

Our final skeleton project was a hoot!
Each kiddo got a part of a real human body xray.
We worked together to build
Mr. Xray!

Well done, kiddos!
