2018 Week 13 letter Cc, star word 'a', POLAR ANIMALS and GINGERBREAD!

We took a little winter getaway last weekend to the
 North Shore to re-energize!
We hiked another section of the trial from Enger Tower in Duluth toward Jay Cooke State Park.
135 miles down...165+ to go!
We also played IN (yes in) Lake Superior
and around Lake Superior.
One day I'm going to have a neophryn wet suit!
Agate and sea glass picking was good as we were the only ones on the beach!  Hmmm, I wonder why? Haha!

Back to work on Monday we had new Morning Challenges:
Polar Animals Sentence Sort...

short a word puzzles...
Feed the Penguin missing numbers....

During independent work time we sorted our own penguin sentences!

Our college girls' last day was Monday.
They really are going to be great teachers someday!

HIP HIP HOORAY!
We opened the Kindergarten Gingerbread Bakery in our dramatic play area!

There's lots going on here to build our brains and our social skills! Plus it's just plain adorable and I want to play here, too!

Another new fun area is the
GINGERBREAD VILLAGE...What fun!

The discovery table has tons of wintery fun as well...

Our igloo is nearly complete.
What a "cool" place to read!

We had a guest teacher on Tuesday from WSU.
Mr. Hames wanted to see what goes on in a Kindergarten room from 8am to 3pm.  We sure kept him busy and AMAZED!
Tuesday's centers included:
STEM challenge: Build a cave for a polar bear!
Here's the materials...

Stay tuned for the finished (or nearly finished) caves!

Mr. Hames helped out with penguin measuring...

Ms. Amy worked with the k kids on beginning sounds and
PENGUIN EGGS!

We also wrote penguin number words...

Read the room was penguin color words...

Here are the bear caves!

Wednesday morning we kicked off our GINGERBREAD unit with this fun project...build a gingerbread person!

This cutie brought us
CHIPS and CHEESE for our Cc snack!
What a way to illustrate the ch team!
We also began mixing, patting, cutting, and baking real GINGERBREAD cookies!
(I drag in my roaster...it works!)
Here's the first step...setting up!

Here's our new sign for the bakery! Nice!

Here's our newest poem about the gingerbread man!

And another star word game...find the gingerbread man!
We are really reading now!
This whole week we focused on the ~an family!
We just LOVE LOVE LOVE our morning messages!
On this one the k kids wrote their own ~an family word.

Yes, we are learning about ADJECTIVES!
and applying that knowledge to our world!
Okay, the k kids did not think adults could fit in our igloo...
Challenge accepted!
I didn't think about the getting out part, though!
Haha!  Beau had to help pull me out.
We all had a good laugh!
It's good to be silly sometimes...

Action100 readers!

Wednesday afternoon we finally got to pat out and cut out our gingerbread man!

I baked them in that little red roaster.
MMMMM! It smelled amazing in here!

Ms. Amy began an art project with the kids for me.
They are creating these adorable gingerbread necklaces!
We'll send them home when everyone is finished.

Thursday morning we had new GINGERBREAD
Morning Challenges!
This one is counting by 5s to 100!

This table put little gingerbread people in numeric order...
This was a toughie! But we can do hard things!
This final table's challenge was to assemble all 12 puzzles!

During independent seat work we worked on our ~an family houses!

This is the teaser for an graphing activity that we did at group time...

We had a real cookie, took a bite, then make our paper cookie match.
Then we graphed this question:
"Which part of the gingerbread man did you eat 1st?"

Thursday's centers included:
Decorating our gingerbread cookies!
Lots more pics to follow of this tasty activity!

Gingerbread comparing numbers...

Gingerbread play do....(it smelled wonderful!)

Gingerbread ~an family dice roll...

Gingerbread friends' names writing practice...

More decorating photos!
Everyone wanted a pic of their GBM!
