2018 Week 17 ~ap family, star words "come" "me", MITTENS!

Happy 2018!
Here's just a quick peek into one of the highlights of my Winter break...I flew to Atlanta for the weekend to celebrate my Granddaughter's 1st Birthday!
Here my son, Graham, and I are making donuts...
so many donuts!
...for Adelaide's donut themed party!
My daughter-in-law, Melissa,
was the mastermind and decorator of donuts!
Adi's not too sure about me YET!
She's a little shy like my kiddos all were.
I did get a few fleeting snuggles in though!
Graham and Melissa are having a blast as parents!
Proud mama and grandma here!
Plus it was 52* when I got there!
Yay, Me!  However I do not mind the cold.
so....

Welcome back to the frigid frozen tundra!
(we are working on adjectives)
We began our new year with new morning challenges:
Spelling HAPPY NEW YEAR...

counting by  5s mittens...

counting by 2s mittens...

We created cute little New Year's hats!
One of my favorite things is to begin our year with
NEW SUPPLIES!
We also looked at a 100s chart individually for the first time. There's so much to see on a 100s chart!

Our first project of the year was a count down to the new year!  Counting backwards from 20 is a state standard so what a fun way to practice!
Tuesday's centers included:
Happy New Year Star Words...

Happy New Year Numerals ...

At my table we finished our Count Down to the New Year project...
Glitter Bomb Play Dough...

We had a chance to see place value in action as we looked at the actual numeral of 2018...
We added two new star words this week!
COME and ME

We've been looking at a different word family every week.
Now we have a treasure chest of word family cards to read!
Adjectives are also a part of our Kindergarten curriculum!
What a fun way to add some sparkle to our speaking and writing!

On Wednesday we began our mitten theme!
We read folktales, compared stories, did a character map, retold the story by acting it out, and wrote our own mini folktale!
We graphed data about our mittens or gloves and reviewed symmetry by designing and sharing our designs with a friend to replicate!

Meet "Nikki" our actor from the mitten by Jan Brett!
Here's the players part 1....
and the players part 2...

During Bonus Book time this group of kiddos got together for a "Reading Meeting!"  (their name for it!)

Thursday's centers included:
a pair of friends...reading and writing our friends' names

We designed these earlier in the day.

Mitten beginning and ENDING sound...

Ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) with
The Mitten Characters...

and mitten addition with Tanner's Grandma!
