2021 Week 12 Polar Animals

I hope you had the happiest of Thanksgivings!

We hosted 20 on Thursday and then hung out with our son,  Lee, and our 2 year old granddaughter, Ashland, at the new hotel in Winona!

The next day we flew to Atlanta (somewhat imprompu!!!) to meet our newest granddaughter,  Maiken! Graham and Melissa surprised us with a stay at this amazing Bed and Breakfast! We kept our 5 year old granddaughter,  Adelaide, with us both nights. How cool is that?

It's the fanciest sleep over we've ever had!  And I have soooo much to be thankful for!

Here is where we stayed:  Sugar Magnolia Bed and Breakfast in Inman Park, Atlanta, Georgia!

❤❤❤
Before Thanksgiving the k kids celebrated our 50th day of school!

Where is the time going?
We also created these cutie patootie turkeys. You just cannot have too many handprint turkeys!

We also followed a pumpkin pie recipe and ate our creation!  Only one kiddo did not care for it. That's pretty good for trying something new for many kids!

On Friday the kids earned more outdoor choice time for winning the ABC game!  How fun! What delightful weather and although I love winter and snow this week has been the best!

Thursday's centers were penguin themed:

We learned that a penguin stays warm and toasty in the freezing Antarctic weather partly because of their waxy feathers! We tried to keep our penguins dry by using white crayons to represent the wax!  It was a pretty "cool" experiment!

This station was beginning sounds with penguin eggs...

We played a penguin/Polar bear game...
They are Polar opposites and would never meet in real life but it's fun to imagine!

We also had a read the room activity as we looked for color word penguins...

This station was penguin addition...

Here's a few more shots of our penguin STEM activity...

During literacy we sorted penguin words into parts of speech: Noun Verb Adjective (each penguin has a word on it,  it's hard to see here)

On Monday we painted these snowy bears and we learned many Polar bear facts.  For instance,  did you know their skin is black?  And their hair is actually colorless,  not white?  We talked about WHY this might be.  The kids are becoming such thoughtful scientists!
Here's another new learning station... The Arctic
We've also opened a penguin station!

Tuesday's centers included...
Polar bear STEM... build a den for a polar bear!

(More photos further down)

We also had a read the room polar bear color words...

And Polar bear tally marks...

Polar animal graphing...

And a fun color by code to find the mystery animal... you guessed it,  a polar bear!

Here's more photos our STEM activity... build a den for our polar bear

Sometimes the best toys are free toys!  The kids have been building stupendous structures with Styrofoam!
